This painting combines two classic Louisiana icons, the crawfish and the fleur-de-lis, each a symbol of Louisiana's unique culture. Legend has it that crawfish are the descendants of lobsters that followed the Acadian settlers from Nova Scotia to Louisiana. Crawfish are enjoyed as a delicious delicacy and celebrated with festivals and backyard crawfish boils throughout the state. Louisiana’s state symbol, the fleur-de-lis, is symbolic of Louisiana’s French heritage; A rich heritage influencing all of the things that makes life in Louisiana so special, the food, music, architecture and joie de vivre (joy of life) of its people.
